Aging-in-Place
Is your home going to be friendly to you as you age? It’s a question we often don’t think about until it’s too late.
Aging-in-place means staying in your home safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age, income or level of ability. It means remaining in a comfortable, familiar environment throughout your life, rather than relying on assisted living and other arrangements. It means you’re able to call your house your “forever home.”
What is CAPS?
The Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) program was developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelers™ Council, in collaboration with AARP, NAHB Research Center and NAHB Seniors Housing Council. Trained CAPS remodelers have the knowledge and expertise of building and remodeling techniques that accommodate the needs of people over the age of 50.
As the first Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist in southwest Virginia, we have the knowledge and technology to make sure your home stays friendly and accessible as you grow older. BRHI is proud to be CAPS remodeler so that our customers can remain in their homes for a lifetime.
What’s the Process?
We start out with a home assessment to learn more about your specific needs and find the potential problem areas in your home. We bring an extensive checklist that covers anything from handrails to lighting to entranceways. We then analyse the checklist and create a list of recommendations on ways to improve accessibility and comfort in your home as you grow older.
Is your home ready for a lifetime? Find out with our abbreviated CAPS checklist!
